This is one of my favorite stitch patterns.  I have come across several names including Old Shale and Feather and Fan.

My swatch is knit on U.S. Size 7 knitting needles with worsted weight yarn.  The stitch pattern repeats every 18 stitches and I cast on 2 repeats.  The pattern is very simple with only 4 rows to each repeat.

This is the stitch pattern that inspired the first Dishcloth Dress, Going Dancing.

I have used this stitch pattern in many other projects including scarves and blankets.  This baby blanket is done with 4 colors.

The possibilities of color combinations are endless.
