As the weather turns cooler, I am always eager to take inventory of the socks that I have in progress and finish a pair or two for the winter. I always knit socks when I travel and this year, I made several plane trips so there’s plenty to choose from.
I have three pairs of socks in progress. Last weekend I finished one sock of each of the first two pairs and completed the heel on sock one of the third pair
You’ll notice that I only use one sock pattern. I find that this pattern fits me well and I prefer to use yarns that are special and colorful instead of knitting patterns when I knit socks. This also makes them the perfect To-Go project, as I can just knit and purl around and around without much thought. Perfect for waiting in the airport or sitting on a plane.
Here’s the first sock. This yarn is a special souvenir from my May trip to Dubuque, Iowa.
.
The next sock, I refer to as my pumpkin socks. Not sure what mood I was in when I bought this yarn. It’s very bright orange with yellow and a bright green. These socks will definitely need to be worn under boots or around the house on a cold Sunday afternoon. They do make me smile.
And the third sock is a terrific turquoise combo. This yarn is from the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. I can’t seem to leave there without sock yarn among my purchases.
I did something a little different this year. I took apart two other pairs of socks that were on the needles. I think three pairs is enough to add to my sock wardrobe this year. All the unfinished projects are starting to bother me. I’m hoping that this year is the year I finish or frog all my projects. Then next year, I’ll be ready to start brand new projects.
But, I didn’t mention that next week is The New York Sheep and Wool Festival at Rhinebeck and I’m sure to bring home yarn.
