Determined to reduce my stash of cotton yarn, I’ve been busy making these dishcloths and washcloths. I’m currently using up lots of yarn with the ball band pattern and this round Tribble pattern. I’ve made a few changes to the basic Tribble pattern, I use Size 8 needles and cast on 30-35 stitches. When finished they measure between 5 and 6 inches across. Becasue they are double thick, they make a nice heavy cloth.
I’ve finished all the variegated yarn that I had and now I’m working on combining the solid colors to create some fun pinwheel colors.
I’m not sure what I’m going to do with all of these but it is very easy knitting. I can finish one in an evening.
And so as I finish up my stash of cotton yarn, I also began a new project. Below is the first square of my Heirloom Afghan.
I recently joined the Hunt Valley Cashmere Square of the Month Club. I’m thrilled with this yarn and the terrific way that I receive it. I signed up for the shipments to arrive every other month. I receive two skeins of this lovely 8 ply cashmere yarn in the cream color and have 8 weeks to knit one 12 inch square before the new yarn arrives.
I decided that this beautiful yarn should be knit in a simple pattern so I’m knitting a seed stitch square with a stockinette stitch center. I’m not sure if I’ll make every square the same or alternate with a stockinette stitch square. Part of the fun in receiving the yarn every other month is that I have plenty of time to decide. Also, receiving just 2 skeins every other month fits nicely into my budget. I wouldn’t be able to make a cashmere blanket if I had to purchase all the yarn at once. The finished blanket should be 20 squares and then a border. So that’s two years of cashmere knitting.
I’ve been starting every morning with this yarn. Just 3 or 4 rows as I have my coffee before I start the hectic pace of my work day. A wonderful, peaceful start to the day.
